Corinthians 13 (Did Me Wrong)

about

"In my family's house, my parents have framed poems and verses that they really like in the bathroom. I grew up reading these and I suppose it's where my love for poetry comes from. But there is this one verse that is framed and it's called 'Love'. It comes from the book 'Corinthians' in the bible and it is verse '13 4-7'. It is basically about how love is this wonderful thing. And the last line is 'And now these three remain. Faith, Hope and Love'.
Now after the experience I had with love (with the girl that 'Here's To You' is about) I thought this was utter bollocks after believing this verse for so many years.
In 2008 I moved to Guildford and attended the Academy of Contemporary Music for a year, whilst my Girlfriend at the time moved to London to pursue a career in Theatre. For the first month or two I spent a lot of time going from Guildford train station to Waterloo station, then catching an underground train to East Finchley where she had moved. The first few visits where awesome. But over time she seemed to lose interest in me (for the reasons that Here's To You are about).
This one time I felt very down so I ended up at hers seeking comfort but she was very distant from me so I ended up spending the night on a horrible sofa.
It was soon after this that the relationship ended. But a couple of weeks after it ended, I had a phone call from her asking to meet. So we met and spent a lot of time together for that evening. We spoke about plans of trying to make it work again but the next morning.....surprise surprise......her mind had changed and decided that she wanted to make it work with the new guy.
A few months down the line we got back into contact and seemed to be doing ok as friends again, although we never met face to face, but after a while it turned bitter again when we both bought up the things that had happened.
So this song was my way of coming to terms with the feeling of helplessness that one person can leave you with. And how nothing in the Bible is true!
This is also the situation that inspired the artwork for the E.P.
A picture of a train that I used to catch to vistit her has been set alight and on the journey is gradually burning to the ground. That is a metaphor to what was actually happening behind the scenes of that relationship!"

lyrics

Verse: She told me once oh she told me twice on the phone not to call her again. But the next day her number appeared on the screen of my phone as it started to ring. She couldn't resist oh I knew that she missed conversations where dreams seemed to start. From the phone to the bed to the wardrobe instead to the back seat of her car.

Chorus: So why do I find myself playing these games?
When I know i'm not one to name names.
Oh ballerina, well you should've seen her, she'd dance the whole night through. She'll kiss you a smile but then be done with you.

Verse: She poured me a drink as we began to think about what to do with the night. I wanted to make the best of a journey that sets off at Guildford for a two train ride. To the underground at Waterloo through East Finchley surrounded by buskers and tramps. All I got was a kiss on the cheek and to sleep on the sofa. But I take it back.

Chorus: But I guess that it's fine when it suits her. And you would do the same if you knew her.
But I guess that it's boring 'cause she had been clawing her way since 2006. And the cut still feels fresh since she left me an atheist.

Middle 8: I read a verse from the bible when I was young. A short and sweet verse. Entitled 'Love'. I believed every word I read. I know have my own thoughts instead.

Chorus: But I still have one more question. What's wrong with being open to suggestion?
I did my best when the things I suggested were quotes from the things that i'd learnt.
And now these three remain 'Faith, hope and hurt'
