"I knew that after I had written all of 'First Impressions E.P'and awaited it's release, I wanted to write songs with full instrumentation rather than just me and an Acoustic guitar. Although I still love that musical aesthetic to what I do, a full band seemed to make more sense for some tunes. So I wrote a few of these 'Full band' songs over the course of 2010, and they all ended up on this E.P.
I was booked to go and start recording this E.P in January 2011 and I had all the songs settled for it, but something was still missing. So I got into writing mode and wrote what became 'New Years Resolution'. It came to be a song in December 2010 as I was looking through pictures on my phone from nights out in town with my friends and looking on the computer at photo's from the last few years. I found photo's of spending time at a pub called The River Mill in St Neots where every tuesday they hold an Open Mic Night and I used to go down there alot with a group of friends and our girlfriends at the time. It was actually at this pub where my good friend and Bass guitarist Chris Viggars introduced me to Whiskey at the age of seventeen. I noticed how times had changed but us as a group of friends had stayed strong and had introduced new people to our group so this is my way of rejoicing in the times that had changed and accepting that I wouldn't change any of my history for the world!"
lyrics
Verse: We are just riding around, living out each day like the last and it's always funny when I look in the past. I'll tell you the things I see. I see our dreams spread across the floor like the Christmas presents from the year before. So join me in a celebration of the times that passed. Along with the summer sun and drinking down by The River Mill. Can you remember just how it feels getting served underage until we were good and drunk. Along with the girls we knew back when we were seventeen and so used to the old routine. But those girls left us in the end alone. Alone. So, we've still got our own weeknights in the street lights and our bright eyes, oh how they shine when other girls come passing in our sights. But we would rather sit and laugh the nights away that come from days that we get paid so here's to all those nights that make our lives, our lives.
Chorus: They were the best of times. Living for the sake of being alive and the rest that I can look back on to say 'at least I tried'.
Verse: And I won't forget a single thing. I guess it's best for me to keep those things in mind 'cause then I can believe that this is not the end of just another year. It's clearly the beginning here and just a chance for us to start again.
Chorus: They were the best of times. Living for the sake of being alive and the rest that I can look back on and say 'at least I tried'.
Middle 8: If the good die young. Then we will live forever.
With our off-key voices and out of tune hearts. We couldn't do much better.
So i'm flicking through the photo's and the numbers in my phone. Looking for the reasons that I have to sing.
I guess what I'm trying to say is ''When it comes to New Years Day, my resolution is to not change a thing''
Chorus: They were the best of times. Living for the sake of being alive and the rest that I can look back on and say 'at least I tried'.
Yeah I'll make you proud every time I sing my songs aloud. So my stage is now anywhere where you are in the crowd!
